Timbers to host semifinal playoff match October 4

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced they will host their USL First Division semifinal-round, home playoff match on Sunday, Oct. 4, at PGE Park, presented by Spirit Mountain Casino. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Single-game tickets for the semifinal match start at $14 in advance and will go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. at the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.

The deadline to purchase two-game playoff ticket strips is today by 5 p.m. Discounted playoff tickets are available to groups of 15 or more by calling the Timbers ticket office at (503) 553-5555.

The Timbers won the 2009 USL First Division Commissioner’s Cup as the regular-season champion, resulting in a first-round bye to the semifinal round.

The USL First Division playoffs begin Sept. 24, with the first and semifinal rounds consisting of a two-game, aggregate-goal series. New in 2009, the championship round will also consist of a two-game series, starting Oct. 9. The 2009 USL First Division playoff field includes the Timbers, Carolina RailHawks, Charleston Battery, Montreal Impact, Puerto Rico Islanders, Rochester Rhinos and Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Timbers’ opponent for the semifinal will be determined following the first round, which ends Sept. 27; they will face the lowest remaining seed. Finishing with the league’s best record for the second time since 2001, Portland advances to the postseason for a sixth time in its nine seasons of USL play.
