Preston arrives in Portland for U.S. tour


PORTLAND, Ore.  – Preston North End, The Portland Timbers opponent for The Oregonian Timbers vs. Preston North End Exhibition presented by Widmer, arrived in Portland late Thursday for its 2007-08 U.S. Pre-season tour. The Lilywhites will play three matches in the U.S. as they prepare for the 2007-08 Coca-Cola League Championship season.
 
With their arrival into the U.S., the Timbers have learned Preston North End's travel roster.
 
Goalkeepers:
Wayne Henderson, a member of the Republic of Ireland National Team
Andrew Lonergan, a former England U-20, begain his pro career at 17 with Aston Villa
Christopher Neal, a 19-year old prospect
 
Defenders:
Graham Alexander, captain of Scotland's National Team, played in over 300 games for Preston
Daniel Pugh, second on the squad in yellow cards in 2006-07
Youl Mawene, 2004-05 Preston North End Player of the Year
Sean St. Ledger, a memeber of the Republic of Ireland National Team
Liam Chilvers
Dominic Collins
Callum Davidson, a former member of the Scotland National Team
Matthew Hill

While Preston North End has never been to Portland, there will be a few familiar faces on the pitch on July 28. Timbers defender Justin Thompson and midfielder Tom Taylor have played with two members of Preston North End's squad. Thompson played with Preston's Simon Whaley at Bury FC in 2003 when Thompson started his pro career while Taylor played with Karl Hawley while the two were members of Walsall FC in 2004.
 
Preston North End will call Portland home while the club is in the U.S. except for a few days when they travel to Seattle to play the Sounders on Monday and then to Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday to play Mexican side Monterrey.
